JEDDAH: Twenty-two Saudi tourists suffered from food poisoning after breakfast at a hotel in Mashhad, Iran, recently, bringing back the memories of a tragedy involving a Saudi family in the same city almost two months ago.

Four children had died and 36 took ill after inhaling phosphine, which was apparently used during the fumigation of the hotel on June 7.

The tourists in the latest incident were given first aid in a hospital and discharged.

Basim Al-Dhamin, an eyewitness, said that among those affected were children, women and men and that they showed symptoms of poisoning after eating breakfast. “A medical committee was investigating the cause of the food poisoning.”

One of the affected tourists said he suffered from fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea after eating the breakfast in the hotel.
