The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has confiscated 24,000 unlicensed and fake medical products in Riyadh, Jeddah and Hail. Sources at the SFDA said recently that inspection teams found products that violated the Kingdom’s quality standards.

These include glucose monitoring devices, medical needles, surgical gloves, thermometers, home blood pressure monitoring devices, stethoscopes and other medical supplies.

Some products had no licenses, expired licenses, no SFDA marketing permits and lacked Arabic instruction leaflets. Others were simply counterfeit goods.

The SFDA said it is destroying some of the products. It also ordered some manufacturers to institute corrective measures for their products so that they could be registered with proper production and marketing permits.
