The number of people arrested for undermining national security has reached 3,219, with Saudis forming the majority at 86 percent of the total, recent statistics revealed.

In the wake of recent events in the Eastern Province, the number of people arrested for criminal activities reached 78.

A survey conducted by the Ministry of Interior found that Saudis topped the list of detainees at 2,773, followed by Yemenis (180), Syrians (74), Pakistanis (30) and Egyptians (21). All the detainees have found to be enjoying full human and legal rights during their detention, with their cases now being supervised by BIPP, the Human Rights Commission, and the National Human Rights Committee.

According to Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki, security spokesman at the Ministry of Interior, a total of 90 detainees were released from Mohammad bin Naif Counseling and Care Centers in Riyadh and Jeddah following successful rehabilitations.

Al-Turki said that they had been released after showing positive signs of benefitting from the legislative, social, psychological, historical, scientific, artistic and vocational programs at the centers, in addition to showing positive developments after seminars and lectures that they had attended during their detentions. Other detainees at these centers would be subjected to further counseling programs to help them achieve social stability, he added.
