JEDDAH: Saudi authorities were able to thwart two smuggling operations and confiscate 3.5 million narcotic tablets and nearly three kilograms of raw heroin.
The authorities coordinated with the security authorities of the United Arab Emirates to carry out their operations. Four smugglers, two Syrians, a Pakistani and a Sri Lankan, were arrested from both operations.
Security Spokesman of the Interior Ministry Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki said specialized security authorities are following up on the criminal activities targeting the Kingdom with narcotics and the smugglers involved.
He added the latest arrests were made in cooperation with the security authorities of one of the brotherly and friendly countries, and 3.5 million amphetamine tablets, and 2.94 kilograms of raw heroin were seized.
He added that in light of the information provided about one of the smuggling attempt of narcotics to the Kingdom through the UAE, and the coordination with the security authorities there, the smugglers were arrested before they could deliver the drugs in the Kingdom.
The amphetamine tablets were hidden within metal material in three movable containers. According to available information, the shipment was made via a truck through the Salwa border crossing, heading to Riyadh. The truck was stopped, and after a thorough search, the contraband was discovered, and the Pakistani driver was arrested.
The Saudi Interior Ministry stated anyone who targets the sons of this nation through such narcotic substances will be arrested and brought to justice.
