JEDDAH: Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal has announced the establishment of 40 new neighborhood centers in the next four years.

The centers will seek to achieve social networking and strengthen relations among all sections of society in the interest of encouraging and facilitating people’s participation in the development of cities.

The aim of neighborhood centers is to instill the values, forge ties with the governor’s office, achieve changes in society and enhance the participatory role in society, said the governor who also heads the district neighborhood centers as chairman.

Prince Khaled approved the appointment of Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed as vice president of the management council of neighborhood centers and praised his services.

He directed that the council’s executive committee be formed for adopting draft regulations, creating subassemblies and streamlining work procedures.

He stated that the council should call for four board meetings in a year.

Prince Khaled told the heads of the management council of neighborhood centers on Tuesday that insights provided by their members will be taken into account.

He added that the council will have many more activities once 40 new neighborhood centers are created, especially in encouraging the participation of the people in the development of cities and in promoting solidarity in society.
