Five of the seven Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who survived a car accident in Jeddah on Thursday were discharged from the hospital on the same day while two others are still confined at the Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital.

Three men had died in the wreck.

“The staff of the Philippine Consulate General are currently attending to them while helping the employer in expediting the repatriation papers for the remains of the fatalities,” a consulate spokesman told Arab News.

The employer is the Mohammad Munsour Al Bassami Group Construction while the fatalities were identified as Gerardo Bernal, Jenefrey Monteclaro and Karamuddin Dimalaya. The company has about 30 Filipinos under its employ.

Bernal and Monteclaro worked as mechanics while Dimalaya was a company driver.

According to a report, there were 10 men on board a small pickup truck on their way home from Dahban, 140 kilometers from the Jeddah city center, when the truck’s tire blew out at about 6 p.m.

The victims were ejected from the vehicle. The three victims were killed instantly.

Berna’s wife, Fe, said his husband, a father to three children, had been planning to go home next year when his two-year contract expires.

The victims’s bodies remain at the King Fahd Hospital.
