The special criminal court in Riyadh has convicted 60 people of terrorism over the past three months, and sentenced them to lengthy jail terms, fines and travel bans.

In one case, a man was found guilty of mixing with suspicious individuals, watching video material encouraging people to join the fighting in Yemen and attending several meetings of Al-Qaeda supporters in Makkah.

He was also convicted and sentenced for disobeying the orders of the country’s ruler by trying to join the fighting in Syria, assaulting a police officer and disturbing public peace.

The court sentenced him to six years starting from the date of his arrest, and fined SR15,000 for the offenses falling under the country’s bribery and information technology regulations.

Another man was convicted for harboring the first defendant after he learned about his plan to join Al-Qaeda in Yemen, and sentenced to two years and six months.

The court also confiscated his computer and banned him from traveling for five years starting from the day of his release, according to paragraph one of article 56 of the anti-narcotics regulations. He was also sentenced to 70 lashes because of his use of banned pills.
