Field inspectors of the Riyadh municipality have closed down 66 stores for endangering public health and booked more than 350 foreign workers for health irregularities, local media reported.

The inspectors, who carried out raids on Monday and Tuesday in a number of districts in Riyadh, suspended the expatriates from work immediately due to nonavailability of or invalid health certificates, presence of infections or blisters on the hands of the workers and failing to wearing uniforms in shops, the media said.

Closure of the stores came for a variety of reasons including lack of professional licenses, expired food items, poor hygiene and storage conditions, newspapers said.

The municipal inspectors also seized and destroyed more than 2,658 kg of rotten meat, fish and poultry items from unknown sources in addition to 1,198 unserviceable utensils, the media said.
