The Philippine Embassy has registered 7,511 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) since the registration for overseas absentee voting started on May 6, according to Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago.

“The response has been good so far and the Philippine Embassy continues to record a high daily registration,” the Filipino envoy told Arab News on Friday.

He observed that the high turnout is due to the initiative by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to include verification of voter’s registration status for all clients of passport renewal and other consular services.

“Since the new procedures were implemented, we process about 400 new registrants for absentee voting everyday. We have five encoders for overseas voting registrants working nonstop during working hours,” he said.

He sought everyone’s patience “as we work to ensure that everyone completes the registration procedure as quickly as possible.”

“We will soon upload the application forms on of the website in case anyone wishes to download the form and complete it before coming to the embassy,” he said.

He also reminded all Filipinos that registration of overseas voting will continue until Oct. 31, 2015.

“Filipinos who previously registered but did not vote for two consecutive elections need to register. In addition, Filipinos may now register in Riyadh even if they will vote in another country or in the Philippines,” he said.
