RIYADH: Police arrested an eight-member gang for robbing an exchange house in the capital of SR10 million in foreign and local currencies.
The gang included six Yemenis, a migrant whose nationality is not known and a Saudi, all of whom are in their twenties and forties.
The gang entered the exchange house which carries out remittance services to various countries, threatened the staff at gunpoint and stole cash from the office.
The members of the gang held fake guns made of plastic. During the raid, the robbers tied the hands of the exchange house staff before they left the bank.
According to police, the robbers covered their faces to conceal their identities, and disconnected CCTV camera wires and also grabbed mobile phones from the office staff to cut off all types of communication outside the exchange house.
According to police, the suspects were apprehended in various places following days of searching in towns and villages.
During the investigations, the suspects confessed to their robbery. Police recovered SR4.22 million and $40,000 from one of accused who had hidden it in his house. The recovered funds were returned to the exchange house.
On completion of inquiry, the suspects will produce before a court of law for the necessary trial and punishment.
