The Philippine Embassy has said that 84 children of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) took the OWWA scholarship exam on Wednesday.

The 84 senior high students who sat the exam belonged to the upper 20 percentile of their classes from various Philippine overseas schools in Riyadh under the OWWA Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP).

Under the program, a scholar is given an annual amount of P60,000 for tuition fees and other expenses.

According to Welfare Officer Romeo Pablo, the program does not prescribe any course preference. Students must maintain a general average of 80 percent in order to qualify for the scholarship.

Al-Taj International School had the biggest number of examinees, with 14 students who sat the test; Future Generations International School, 12; Palm Crest International School, 10; Elite International School, 10; Second Philippine International School, 9; the International Philippine School in Riyadh, 8; Riyadh International School, 7; Al-Danah International School, 7; Fawaq International School, 7; and Millenium International School, 2.
