The Madinah Secretariat has cleared 860 damaged cars from the streets and neighborhoods of Madinah city since the beginning of the current Islamic year. The action was taken following a written warning served on the owners of a deadline to remove these cars. The cars were officially towed away by the secretariat.

According to the General Director of the Cleanliness Department in Madinah Secretariat, Jalal Ahlghree, the process for dealing with these situations involves identifying the damaged cars and putting written warnings on the vehicles which give the owners a period of 15 days to remove them.

“Any unmoved vehicles during the specified period will be towed away by the department immediately,” he said.

Ahlghree also said that the towed vehicles are kept in the Secretariat’s custody for a period of three months and the owners granted permission to obtain their vehicles after following the necessary procedures. If the owners fail to show up or comply with the regulations the Secretariat disposes of these cars.

A committee consisting of representatives from the Madinah Secretariat, the traffic department, and the CID oversees the removal of the damaged vehicles.

The role of the Secretariat through this Committee is to count the neglected cars and send a report about them to the Traffic Department and CID to ensure that the cars are not involved in criminal issues.
