JOUF: A citizen in Jouf has become at 94 the oldest person to register for the Dec. 12 municipal council elections.

The man, who was not named, arrived at the Zaloum election center accompanied by his 62-year-old son, an online publication reported on Wednesday. He said that citizens have an important role to play in electing people who can represent them.

Meanwhile in Tabuk, polling stations there recorded the youngest and oldest women who registered for the elections, aged 18 and 86. A 75-year-old woman was also among the elderly people who registered to vote at one of the local stations.

Mohammad bin Abdul Hadi Al-Umari, secretary of Tabuk and head of the local elections supervising committee, said that the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs has issued an order amending article 17 of the law for voters seeking to register.

The law stipulates that all voters must have proof of identity and age by using their national identity card, passport, university identity card, or employee identity card that has photographs.

Article 20 of the law was also amended to stipulate that people should have proof of residence, which could be based on a rent agreement attested by the Chamber of Commerce or other government institutions.
