JEDDAH: The Ministry of Health dismissed the director, nursing supervisor and maintenance supervisor at Abqaiq Hospital after a worker carried out a painting job in one of the hospital rooms with no regard for the patients there.
The ministry said in a statement issued on Wednesday that the three officials were dismissed after a video, verified by the ministry, surfaced on social media, showing a worker painting a room occupied by patients at the hospital.
“The technical monitoring committee decided that the director and the supervisors did not perform their duties properly, and therefore a decision was taken to dismiss them,” read the statement. The ministry also decided not to deal with the maintenance company anymore and apologized to the patients for “this irresponsible act.”
The ministry stressed that the safety of the patients is a red line and disregarding it is not accepted under any circumstances.
The health directorate in the Eastern Province referred the duty manager at Abqaiq Hospital and a paint worker to investigation on charges of negligence, for painting three rooms in the hospital without taking the administration’s permission.
The callous action was condemned by many people online.
Mutlak Al-Jaloud, director of public relations in the Eastern Province, said the doctor on duty did not file any complaint about the act that was carried out in his presence.
The hospital’s management visited the patient who filed the complainant and apologized for the insensitive act.
