The Urdu Academy has made a proposal to the Indian government to make Urdu the official language along with Telugu once the Telangana is declared a new state. This was announced during the 13th National Education Day celebrations at the Indian Consulate on Friday.

The National Education Day, which is observed every year in memory of the country’s first Education Minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, was attended by Faiz Ahmad Kidwai, the Indian consul general, and about 700 community members.

The event marked a series of programs, including speech and quiz competitions. Students from various schools took part in the activities, which were judged by Irshad Ahmed, Syed Ali Mahmood, Aleem Khan Falaki, Shahida Aziz, Riyaz Ahmed and Anwar Khurshid.

Jamal Quadri, president of the Urdu Academy, and Mohammed Abbas Khan conducted the quiz competition.

Kidwai praised Urdu Academy’s efforts in promoting the Urdu language.

He said the academy’s decision to send a request to the Indian government to pass a resolution in favor of making Urdu the official language in Telangana demonstrates its concern for strengthening the Urdu language. Among those who helped organise the event were Saleem Farooqi, Sheikh Ibrahim, Khalid Hussain, Aslam Afhani, Sami Farooqi, Fouad Anwar,TM Abdul Sami, Hamid Farooq, Mudassir Farooq, Shamsuddin Quadri and Mohammed Minhaj.

Mohammed Faheem and Saleem Farooqi thanked the guests and invitees.
