The Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association (AMUOBA) Riyadh chapter organized a seminar on health awareness, with a special focus on the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS CoV) and the importance of medical insurance.

Speaking on the occasion, Mubarak Al-Shamrani, MD consultant pediatrician and consultant for infectious diseases at King Saud Medical City in Riyadh, stressed that there is no reason to panic about coronavirus.

He advised attendees to take precautionary measures such as avoiding contact with infected individuals and practicing personal hygiene to prevent infections.

Meanwhile, Abdul Raheem Khan, executive member of AMUOBA, discussed the importance of medical insurance for individuals and families. Khan noted that depositing a certain amount of money for medical purposes was a common practice in pre-Islamic times and was not prohibited after the advent of Islam, which suggests that we can opt for insurance coverage to pay medical and surgical expenses.

He added that health insurance is included in employers’ benefit packages as a means of enticing qualified employees.

Earlier, AMUOBA President Mohammad Ahmad Badshah introduced the guests, while vice president Nasim Akhtar welcomed the speakers.

The AMUOBA members also honored guest speakers with mementos.
