The United Andhra Pradesh Forum, an umbrella agency consisting of 20 Jeddah-based social organizations from the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, elected a new president here recently.

Aijaz Ahmed Khan, a veteran social worker, was elected as the new president with a clear majority.

Khan holds the presidency of the Khak-e-Taiba Trust in Jeddah and the vice presidency of the Jeddah Cricket Association.

Khan said he wants to build a sense of confidence among the various clubs to help serve the community. He will focus on education, personality development, health awareness, sports, culture and social reforms. He said he will also choose the best people to carry out the job.

He thanked all the participating organizations for electing him particularly the founder member of the Twin-Cities Youth Welfare Association Syed Khaja Viqaruddin and other young people.

“With your support we will do our best to raise the profile of our community,” Khan added.

Earlier the outgoing convener Hasan Bayazeed Ather wished the new president every success.

Dr. Syed Ali Mahmood talked about ways to promote greater coordination among Indian expatriates and underlined the importance of unity and social work to uplift the community.

The new president aims to highlight the concerns of expatriates from Andhra Pradesh.

“We will take the lead in making joint representations on behalf of Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Indians to the Andhra government and the foreign missions abroad,” Khan said.

Among other activities, the group plans to organize lectures and promote young talent from the community.

The new committee will be announced shortly, said Khan.
