Indian expats rejoiced while Pakistanis in the Kingdom were left hugely disappointed following a 76-run defeat to archrivals India in their opening World Cup match in Adelaide on Sunday.
Some of them woke up early to watch the match that began at 6:30 a.m. in Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, fans in Pakistan’s biggest city Karachi slammed their team claiming their beloved team can’t bat, bowl or field.
Millions of Pakistanis across the country watched the match at home and in restaurants, which had installed giant TV screens, but the defeat — the sixth in six World Cup meetings — frustrated them.
Some livid cricket fans vented their frustration by smashing TV sets in streets. A Pakistani TV channel showed visuals of people taking to streets with TV sets and breaking them to pieces to show their anger. Indians and Pakistanis also exchanged barbs on Facebook and Twitter.
It was the most eagerly awaited match of the cup and the venue — Adelaide Oval — was “under virtual siege” as Indian fans took complete control of the city outnumbering their Pakistani counterparts.
