RIYADH: One more person has died of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in Saudi Arabia bringing the total death toll to 503 until Saturday evening.

The Ministry of Health confirmed here Saturday the death of a 54-year-old Saudi citizen in Najran. The ministry also reported two new MERS cases — one in Riyadh and another in Najran. The new confirmed cases include a 55-year-old Saudi, who is reported to be in stable condition, while another is a Saudi male undergoing treatment in Najran.

The MoH said 606 people have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far.

There are currently 57 active cases receiving treatment at various hospitals in the Kingdom besides nine MERS patients on home isolation.

All foreign schools including Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi schools, which are opening Sunday, have been urged to take all necessary precautions to check the spread of virus among students and teachers.

The MoH has uploaded guidelines for teachers and students on its website (www.moh.gov.sa/en) besides educational contents about MERS in Urdu, French, Malayalam, Tagolog, Bahasa Indonesian and Turkish. Moreover, the MoH said that it is exerting all possible efforts to check the spread of the deadly virus, especially in view of the advent of Haj which will attract about 3 million pilgrims.
