MINA: Undeterred by threats and obstacles posed by Houthi militias, around 2,800 Yemenis performed Haj this year, according to an online newspaper.

However, the Yemeni Haj mission registered a significant decrease in the number of pilgrims compared to past years as many of them were not able to leave their regions due to hostile actions of the Houthi militias.

According to official statistics, Yemenis were in fewer number during Haj compared to pilgrims from other Arab countries.

After the Saudi government announced its program, only 2,859 Yemenis could perform Haj.

Among other Arab pilgrims, Syrians comprised 11,147, Egyptians 72,179, Algerians 29,068, Moroccan 27,313, Iraqis 27,029 and Sudanese 26,344.

The statistics reveal that the number of pilgrims who came through King Abdulaziz International Airport of Jeddah was 128,911, while the number of pilgrims coming through Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport of Madinah was 90,151. Those who came through the Halat Ammar border were 20,668.

The report said that 12,487 pilgrims crossed Red Sea and were received at Jeddah Islamic Port. Others arrived through other land routes.
