ABHA: Director General of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage Muhammad Al-Umrah has identified three achievements by the Handicraft Industries National Program “Bare” from its participation in the Abha investment forum last week.

The first achievement, he said, was landing an agreement to export the products of craftsmen and productive families outside the Kingdom.

He said the second was getting the approval of the general manager of the National Company for Tourism to customize a permanent corner for craftsmen and productive families at Abha Palace Hotel.

The third achievement was the good return of productive families which exceeded SR5,000 in 48 hours.

He added that “the commission’s branch in Asir has agreed to form a number of partnerships that have contributed in supporting the Bare project in Asir, which is known to generate massive economic returns and interaction.”

Al-Umrah also pointed out that the commission in Asir is looking to forge agreements with hotels and shopping malls for erecting corners for dedicated craftsmen and productive families, and to form partnerships with various sectors to hold forums, exhibitions or festivals. “It will also have a significant impact in pushing tourism forward and boosting the economy,” he added.

“The Bare project has a database that includes a large number of families. It also seeks to hold a meeting attended by all parties that support productive families in Asir in order to unite the support and organize the work mechanism so that these families could be productive more than consumptive,” he noted.

The craftsmen and families’ corners at Abha Palace Hotel were highly admired by visitors.

Some exhibited crochet beads, paintings, dresses, Asiri Qat art and other homemade pieces.
