JEDDAH: A family’s happiness over a son’s coming back to life didn’t last more than a few hours before the premature infant died.

The baby’s heart started beating during the washing process after he was declared dead, and the family rushed him back to the hospital to check on his status.

Five hours later the baby died in the hospital and was taken to his final rest with his twin sister.

The mortician at the Abbas cemetery in Taif told the family that he was surprised to feel the pounding heartbeat and the baby shiver as he poured water on his body.

The man, who was preparing the infant for burial, immediately told the family who rushed him alive to the hospital hoping to continue his treatment.

The spokesperson of the Red Crescent committee in Taif confirmed the story and said that the infant was taken to King Abdulaziz Hospital.

He added that the health affairs committee in Taif opened an investigation to determine if the hospital is at fault.

The baby’s family demanded holding those responsible accountable for the incident.

Hamoud Al-Harthi told Okaz that their relative, in her fifth month of pregnancy, prematurely gave birth to a boy and girl at Ahli Hospital.
