JEDDAH: An African expat woman is being investigated for torturing her baby to death by pouring boiling water on her. The motive behind the vicious attack is unknown.

The Board of Investigation and Prosecution in Jeddah has charged the woman with semi-premeditated murder after the burns to the 6-day-old baby’s lower limbs and buttocks resulted in a rapid deterioration of her health.

Police learned about the case from a local hospital. Doctors said the baby was suffering from breathlessness as well as other serious complications.

The coroner said the baby had no broken bones, but had first and second degree burns on various parts due to being exposed to hot liquid. During the investigation, it was found that the woman is married to a man who was deported.

The board based its accusation on the medical report, forensic report, mother’s confession and the statement of a witness. The case has been referred to the Criminal Court.
