RIYADH: The National Handicraft Program (Bari) has entered into an agreement with leading hotels in the Kingdom to showcase works of Saudi artisans, both men and women, and promote handicrafts in a way that helps in the transformation of traditional industries to economic productivity and an investment industry.
In order to promote the handicraft sector, Bari cooperates with national and international experts to provide it with technical advice, including the use of handicraft products in internal and external designs of hotels, a senior Bari official said on Saturday.
“We have entered into agreements with 11 hotels to utilize productions of more than 500 Saudi artisans, both men and women,” he added.
Commending the effort to promote the handicraft sector, senior hotel officials stressed that the idea to showcase Saudi handicrafts in hotels by Bari will contribute to introducing the Kingdom’s culture and heritage to visitors, as well as preserving the national handicraft sector, indicating that the hotel industry, through this project, will offer a good investment opportunity for handicrafts.
Moreover, they added that decorating hotels with national handicraft products will have an important role in supporting the national economy and creating job opportunities, as well as raising public awareness by educating people about national crafts, and will ensure that crafts will continue across the generations.
Saeed bin Abdullah Al-Assiri, executive director of Al-Faisalia Hotel said, “the effort is a connecting link between hotels and artisans, and the handicraft products; it will help promote competitiveness in the hotel sector and give a new heritage touch to hotel guests, especially foreign guests.”
He added that Al-Faisalia Hotel will participate in this project through two types of gifts; the first will be reserved for distinguished hotel guests, and the second for VIP guests.
Earlier, Bari signed an agreement with the Turquoise Mountain Foundation (TMF) of the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, to promote handicrafts in the Kingdom for supporting local artisans through skill-based training by the foundation.
The main aim of the agreement was to spur professional and scientific exchange for students, teachers and artisans between the TMF and Bari, as well as promoting mutual cooperation for development of heritage villages in the Kingdom.
