A security source has said that four people riding on motorcycles fired at two security patrols accompanying a vehicle for transferring money in Alawwamia in the Eastern Province at Qatif, shooting one security man in the process.

He said the shooting was not intended for robbery, but was aimed at the security men themselves, as the driver of the vehicle that transfers the money and his escorts were not shot at. A statement from the Eastern Province police said that at 11 o'clock of Saturday morning, a car for the transfer of funds was shot at by unidentified people.

"The car was en route to stock up one of the ATM machines in the municipality of Alawwamia at Qatif,'' said the statement, adding that the gunshots resulted in injury to one of the security men. The statement further said the security man's injury was minor and he is in good medical condition. Meanwhile, a criminal investigation is under way.

This is the second shooting incident in a week. Last Tuesday, the police station in Alawwamia was shot at by unidentified people. A policeman injured in the shooting was moved to King Fahad Medical Center in Dhahran.

The Interior Ministry earlier said Abdullah bin Salman bin Saleh Al-Sareeh, along with some others wanted on charges of drug trafficking, was arrested after an exchange of fire at Alawwamia.
