Officials of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) in Tabuk have arrested two marriage brokers for allegedly swindling SR200,000 from a woman who was blackmailed and harassed by the duo, said Mohammed Al-Zubaidy, its spokesman.

The woman had contacted the brokers — a man and a woman — through the social media requesting them to find her a groom. The brokers used the photo she had given for matchmaking to blackmail her.

The accused were also trying to grab an additional SR250,000 from their victim, Al-Zubaidy said.

The woman contacted the Haia’s office in Tabuk and lodged a complaint against the pair.

Haia officials arrested the two and handed them to police.
