The General Presidency of Youth Welfare has set up a new body to help integrate people with disabilities into social, cultural and sports activities in the country.

Prince Abdullah bin Musaid, president of the Youth Welfare Organization, said recently that the head of the new body is Saad bin Jameel Al-Qurashi, a member of the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Al-Qurashi will lead a board of 10 members who have experience in developing projects for young people, the prince said. The members include Walid bin Muhammad Al-Maliki, vice president of the board; and Nayef Mishaal Al-Zaidi and Fahad Saleh Al-Sharif as secretary generals.

The other members are Ali Abdullah Al-Zahrani, Khalid Abdul Hafeez, Abdul Mohsen Suleiman Al-Harbi, Mohammed Saleh Al-Shehri, Nayef Aad Al-Harbi, Raed Abdullah Samarqandi and Fareed bin Ali Al-Ghamdi.

The board would operate for four years in accordance with Article 17 of the uniform rules for sport teams.

Al-Qurashi said he is looking forward to the challenge of serving people living with disabilities, in line with the “aspirations of the wise leadership to ensure the progress and welfare of all Saudi citizens.”

Al-Qurashi said the board would soon launch a media campaign to highlight the scope of its work and urged people with disabilities to register with the body.

He said the body would play an educational role in the community and ensure that people with disabilities have representation at regional and international sports tournaments.
