A three-story building under construction collapsed in the Al-Muaiseem neighborhood in Makkah recently.

There were no injuries or loss of life, but an investigation has been launched into the matter by the Civil Defense, police and Saudi Electricity Company.

Witnesses said that after Maghreb prayers, they heard loud noise coming from the location. When they went to investigate, they found that the building had completely caved in. It was almost ready for occupation, they reportedly said.

Sami Al-Jadanie, director general of Makkah’s Civil Defense, has started an investigation.

He held a meeting with the property owner to determine which construction company was responsible for the building.

A source at the Civil Defense said the agency’s operations room received a report at 7 p.m. about the incident. Five teams of rescuers were sent out including experts on seismic activity.
