An Asian housemaid in her 30s reportedly set herself on fire in her sponsor’s house in Hafr Al-Batin on Monday.

Col. Ziad Al-Ruqaiti, Eastern Province police spokesman, confirmed that police received a call at 8 a.m. on Monday morning from a 50-year-old citizen, saying he discovered the maid’s burned corpse in the outer kitchen of his house.

The corpse has been transferred to hospital for further medical testing. While initial investigation ruled suicide, further investigation into the incident is under way.
