On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to extend our best wishes on the occasion of Saudi Arabia’s National Day. Canada and Saudi Arabia have close and positive relations across a wide spectrum. As members of the G-20, allies in the fight against terrorism, important contributors to the world’s energy security, and partners in bilateral trade and investment, we share much in common.

I am particularly proud and delighted that so many young Saudis have chosen to study in Canada - over 16,000 thanks to the wisdom and vision of the King Abdullah Scholarship Program. These educational links are bringing our countries even closer together and will last for generations.

Saudi Arabia is an important global player and a valued partner for Canada. I wish all Saudis peace and prosperity on their national day. You have much to celebrate in this wonderful country.
