JEDDAH: The management of the Jeddah metro has amended the locations of stations of the proposed metro in the north and south parts of the project.

The amendments included stations on some of the main tracks of the project. This was done to connect the tracks and cancel the stops of the metro in areas which can be hindered due to traffic, said an online newspaper.

Dr. Osamah Abdo, chief executive of the Jeddah metro company which is supervising the project, said that these amendments were “limited.”

He denied allegations that these changes were made due to engineering mistakes.

“The project was based on the structural plans of Jeddah which were authorized by the secretariat. This is why we improved some of the tracks so that it serves Jeddah well in view of its population, future development and the jobs we do as part of the project. The improvement of some of the tracks was limited and would serve the city till 2033,” said Abdo.

He cited example of the orange line which connects stations near the Kingdom Tower, the suspension bridge, Madinah Road and Al-Baiah roundabout.

“It will come from the Khozam Palace area to old Makkah road. There a minor amendment was done. The orange line was connecting with the red line and was heading west in the direction of sea. We have made it connect directly with Madinah Road from where it would go up to the suspension bridge,” he said.

He said that the company was preparing the booklets of the phases of the project after it completed general plans and designs.
