RIYADH: Khalid Al-Qahtani has become the youngest ambassador of the National Project on Prevention of Drugs’ (Nibras) “beacon” program. At the tender age of 14, he has taken up the huge responsibility of fighting against the menace of drug addiction in the Kingdom.
“Fighting against drugs is not only a religious duty, but an obligation upon every citizen to work hard in the field and create a healthy society,” Khalid told Arab News.
Khalid, an outstanding student in his school, was granted the ambassador card during a reception hosted by Abdul-Elah bin Mohammed Al-Shareef, secretary-general of the Anti Drugs Committee and assistant director-general of Nibras.
The others who were appointed ambassadors of the beacon program are Suleiman Osaimi, Ghannam bin Hazza Martian and Abdullah bin Falah Nahsaia, a faculty at the King Saud University.
“I am really pleased to have got this honor as ambassador to carry out a noble task to prevent young people from getting addicted to dangerous drugs,” said Khalid, adding that he will speak to youngsters on the ill-effects of drugs. He said his role focuses on how to influence his classmates on the harmful effects of drugs.
Khalid delivers lectures and holds meetings in different parts of the Kingdom. The lectures were addressed to teenagers as they are the main target of drug traffickers.
Khalid said that the beacon program is a national project launched on the directives of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif.
“It is aimed at six major goals, which include activating the role of the family in the prevention of drugs, reducing the prevalence of drugs in the community, enhancing voluntary participation, highlighting the role of the founding partners for the prevention of drugs, lowering drug-related crimes and promoting moral and social values.”
