TAIF: Saudi doctoral degree holders are seeking greater employment opportunities in Saudi universities.
The universities previously issued stringent criteria that Ph.D. degree holders must meet in order to work at institutions. But royal orders given to the universities directorate has opened up the door of employment for them once again in line with new hiring plans and conditions.
Khaled bin Noah is hopeful that the directorate will create a plan to foster a comprehensive system for public education and to allow universities to benefit from Ph.D. degree holders in academia so that their efforts and capabilities won’t go waste.
He said the conditions for appointment need to be reviewed because they serve as obstacles to academic appointments. After all, he said, the government has already spent millions of riyals on these students and that they should therefore now be given priority.
He said the universities hire hundreds of staff each year with only a few Saudi appointees.
Badi Alshukra said that the resumes of those contracted yearly should be reviewed to see whether those appointed are really of the correct caliber. He said that there should be no renewal for those who have passed five years and especially those who have qualifications lower than a Ph.D.
He added that the policies of acceptance and appointments need to be changed since there must be a new process of transparency to hire new national staff.
Abdulrahman Ashahri said he was hopeful because of the new appointments of university directors in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
He added that the new directors are looking differently upon Saudis with higher degrees, and added that if a Saudi candidate has the right qualifications then he or she should be appointed as a matter of priority.
Recent royal orders have meant that seven new directors were appointed to seven top universities. They are Abdulrahman bin Obaid Alyoubi for King Abdulaziz University, Faleh bin RajaaAllah Alsilmi for King Khaled University, Merei bin Hussien Alqahtani to Jazan University, Abdulfatah bin Sulieman Mshaat of Jeddah University, Hussam bin Abdulwahab Zaman for Taif University, Ahmad bin Hamed Nuqaadi for Bisha University and Abdulrahman Alswaiyaan of Hafr Al-Batin University, according to Al-Watan.
