The Presidency of Meteorology and Environment Protection has announced that the cleaning works at one of Jeddah’s coastal sites have been completed, after the area was seriously affected by a suspected oil slick.

Abdulaziz Al-Jasser, general president of the environment body, said the affected area, which was about a length of 1,500 meters, is now free of any oil slick, adding that the location would be returned to the jurisdiction of relevant authorities soon.

The environment body began its work recently after receiving calls from Saudi Boarder Guards in Makkah.

The agency surveyed the affected area and started the cleaning works immediately.

Workers used latest technology to limit the effects of chemicals used during the cleaning process.
