Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Naif has ordered payment of SR1.1 million in compensation to the families of Civil Defense officers Muhammad Al-Qahtani and Mubarak Al-Khalifa, who were killed while engaged in rescue operations in a massive fire that had gutted Al-Bilad Mall (Nesto Supermarket) in Dammam.

Two Civil Defense officers died and six people were injured in the blaze that tore through the mall, which spans 30,000 sqm.

The Saudi Press Agency reported that each of the families would get SR100,000 in emergency assistance and SR500,000 in statutory compensation, while the two officers will be decorated posthumously with medals in appreciation of their heroic job.
