A medical team at Asir’s Central Hospital successfully operated on a 10-year-old obese girl with curved legs and knees, enabling her to walk normally.

According to Asir Central Hospital spokesman Saeed Al-Naqir, the team that operated on the child adopted the American technology known as Taylor Spatial Frame, used to treat complex bone deformities and fractures. Following this technique, the team completed the operation in two stages and removed the device that supported the girl’s legs, after which she was able to walk again.

Surgical consultant for pediatric orthopedic surgery, Dr. Ayed Al-Shahrani, who headed the team, said Asir Central Hospital is one of the major centers in the country conducting this kind of correctional operations.

According to Al-Shahrani, more than 130 surgeries to treat complicated bone deformities were carried out at the center, as well as bone elongations and correction of deformities. Most of these surgeries helped children return to normal life.

Al-Shahrani thanked Asir Health Affairs Director General Dr. Ibrahim Al-Hafzi and supervisor Dr. Abdullah Al-Ahmari for the correctional surgery unit of the orthopedic department, where patients from all parts of the Kingdom arrive for treatment.
