A total of 127 experts from 107 countries will participate in the 40th International Conference on Military Medicine being hosted by the Kingdom in Jeddah from Dec. 7 to Dec. 12.

“The General Administration for Medical Services of the Saudi Armed Forces will host the conference, which will focus on the role of the armed forces in devising strategies for training, study and research in the field with the goal of offering the best medical service,” Director of the General Administration for Medical Services of the Armed Forces Lt. Col. Mansour Al-Homaidi said in a statement.

He said the conference would also be an occasion to exchange expertise in various departments of military medicine. Besides reading and discussing research papers, the conference will also feature workshops and round-table discussions in which the experts will participate.

The conference will shed light on the latest technological developments in the field of health services.

An exhibition will be held on the sidelines of the conference with the theme “Humanitarian Care and Protection.” Leading companies and establishments working in the field in addition to a number of specialized agencies related to military medicine will participate in the expo, he said.

The topics to be discussed in the event include role of military medicine during calamities, relief work during emergency situations and rehabilitation and health care on the battlefield. The workshop will include topics like preparation of medical teams before deployment, medication based on apparent evidence and dressing of wounds in the battlefield, advanced treatment for respiratory complaints on the battlefield and crisis management.

The topics for the round-table discussions include supplies, administration, pharmacology, dental medicine, nursing, paramedical services and veterinary medicine.

Al-Homaidi said the conference is an excellent opportunity for exchange of ideas between medical officials of military service from different countries. It will also help armed forces of various countries to lay down future plans for development besides discussing some topics especially relevant to the Kingdom.
