RIYADH: Riyadh Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar will inaugurate today the conference on “Scientific Work — Its Prospects and Challenges” at Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS).

“The conference provides an opportunity for networking and exchange of views on security agencies,” said Dr. Jamaan Rashid bin Raqush, head of the university.

Dr. Raqush thanked Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif, also the interior minister, for “his support and generous guidance to the university in holding the conference.”

The conference, which ends on Wednesday, will be in collaboration with the United Nations Commission for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNCCHA).

Raqush said the conference aims to support humanitarian work in the Arab world and take advantage of international experiences that could be shared on the occasion.

The conference will discuss scientific papers on various topics such as security and humanitarian affairs, international mechanisms for humanitarian response and the risks of insecurity to people affected by humanitarian crises.

“The efforts of Arab countries in emergency situations during disasters and lessons derived from the management of crowds will also be discussed during the conference,” Dr. Raqush said.

He added that the NAUSS paved the way for the cooperation and coordination between Arab security services and the system of global humanitarian work represented by the UNCCHA.

“The university has multiple efforts on humanitarian undertakings as discussed in scientific meetings, workshops and training courses locally and internationally,” he said.

He also mentioned the various challenges facing humanitarian work especially in light of the unrest that pervades the world, climate change and resource scarcity.

Expected to attend the conference are specialists from ministries of justice, social affairs, environment and health, and the media in Arab countries as well as institutions and relevant organizations of the United Nations and the Red Cross/Crescent.
