The construction of a large building in a well-known and spacious parking area in the commercial district of Batha is expected to further reduce the number of visitors.

“With the construction work, there will be less parking space for visitors who throng the area at night and during weekends,” said Ivan Rile, a technician for a local firm.

There are still parking spots in the area, Rile added, but these are not enough to accommodate all visitors.

“Visitors preferred to park in the area where the building is being constructed because it is accessible and safe,” said Nour Nobe, a Bangladeshi expatriate working for a local firm in Riyadh.

He said the adjoining building has a basement, which serves as parking area for cars but security is a grave concern, as there is no guard on duty.

He advised those wishing to visit Batha on weekends to go there early to safeguard a parking spot.

“Those who decide to go to Batha late should consider commuting by bus or taxi, rather than taking their car,” he said.

Muhammed Haider Bakhst, a Pakistani who works for a local company, said many expatriates go to Batha to shop or eat at their favorite restaurants.

“Batha will always be frequented because visitors can buy many different items from the various shops and supermarkets there. However, overcrowding and lack of parking spaces will push visitors to go elsewhere,” he cautioned.
