The majority of work-related injuries occur in the construction and manufacturing sectors, according to the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI).

A staggering 355,000 injuries were reported in the sector over the past five years, accounting for almost 88 percent of the total number of accidents in every sector, statistics revealed.

The sector contains high-risk activity and a large number of employees, said experts.

A recent report revealed that impact and collision accidents were the leading cause of work-related injuries, accounting for 30 percent of all injuries over the past year.

Falls came second, accounting for 28 percent of the number of accidents.

Around 94 percent of injuries, meanwhile, were sustained by expatriate workers, while more than half of all injured workers reported a complete recovery from their bumps and bruises.

GOSI has pledged to impose penalties against employers who fail to provide adequate safety measures in the work place.

The organization is also working on its occupational safety outreach programs for business owners.

Meanwhile, the organization recently announced the distribution of pensions amounting to SR100 billion to two million beneficiaries.
