The police arrested nine young men in Riyadh on Tuesday for allegedly shooting and injuring a 25-year-old man.

It is claimed that a person with a machine gun had shot the man in broad daylight. A complaint was filed by the younger brother of the victim, who is 18 years old.

Col. Fawaz bin Jamil Maiman, media spokesman of the police in Riyadh, said the incident took place in the Naseem area in the east of Riyadh. Arab News has learned that the assailant and his friends were hiding in various houses in the Naseem neighborhood.

The motive for the shooting is not known. The police had taken special permission from Riyadh Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar to raid the house.

During the raids, the police found a cache of firearms including machine guns, seven pistols, 700 rounds of ammunition and narcotics.

Prior to the raid, the police cordoned off the area and told residents to stay in their homes until the operation had been completed.

The injured man is currently being treated at the King Abdulaziz Medical City of the National Guard. Doctors say he is out of danger. The suspects are in custody at the Naseem police station.
