The Court of Grievances has rejected an appeal of four Haia members against their being barred from field work and assigned administrative tasks outside of Riyadh after attacking a British man and his Saudi wife outside a mall in Riyadh.
“The four were interrogated and convicted (by the Commission for the Prevention of Vice and Promotion of Virtue) without representation,” said Mohammad Al-Rouq, their lawyer.
One of the four members said he felt depressed by the decision.
“Our lawful rights to appeal have been taken away from us. We will continue raising the issue in the media,” he added.
“Our salaries will decrease since we have been assigned administrative jobs instead of field services,” said one member.
An investigation launched by the Haia also found the four members guilty of lying and distorting the story by denying that they were the ones in the video clip involved in the incident, which went viral on social media sites.
The members also made contradictory statements over who was the supervisor and which member had dealt directly with the British man.
Investigation later revealed that it was the field supervisor who had attacked the man.
The presidency had sent a formal apology to the man and his wife after the probe was completed.
