An administrative court in Dammam has sentenced a customs supervisor at Batha checkpoint to two years in jail and a SR40,000 fine for taking bribes.

The court acquitted another customs officer for allowing a vehicle carrying banned goods to cross the border without checking the vehicle, on the instructions of the supervisor.

The Control and Investigation Board had earlier filed a case against the customs supervisor for demanding a bribe of SR20,000 from a citizen for allowing him to bring prohibited goods into the Kingdom from the United Arab Emirates.

The citizen then gave the money to the supervisor, who asked his colleague to pass the man’s vehicle without checking it. The supervisor denied the charges but the evidence proved he was guilty. The second customs officer did not take any bribes and the court acquitted him after learning that the supervisor had instructed him not to do his duty.
