The Ministry of Justice has embarked on the resolution of an agreement that would allow it to establish an electronic link with the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI).

The ministry aims to provide a database of the salaries of retirees to judges working on divorce and alimony cases to track down individuals who are not paying their alimony expenses. 

This move comes following a number of incidents detected by judges in which individuals deferred their alimony payments, which prompted the ministry to collaborate with other governmental bodies for the provision of information about the litigants.  

Majed Al-Edwan, director of the King Abdullah Project to Develop the Judiciary System, explained that the ministry is seeking to create an electronically integrated portal with various government bodies, including GOSI, for the provision of data concerning salaries of retirees to adjudicate in cases of divorce and alimony. He said that the project is progressing in terms of electronic integration and the automation of its procedures with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Riyadh Municipality and the Ministry of Education so as to provide information about male and female teachers and students for juvenile cases.

Al-Edwan revealed that King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals has been contracted to conduct a study that involves draft a strategic plan for the development of the judiciary and a five-year operational plan to implement the project. Work procedures in the Courts of First Instance and Appeal, along with Enforcement Services, First Notary Public Department, the Second Notary Public Department and Reconciliation offices have been completed.
