A number of disabled members’ families have complained that the Social Affairs Ministry is delaying the process of granting them special vehicles, saying these cars help people with special needs to move without the help of others.

Families in Asir Province made the complaints and asked why the cause was delayed.

Khalid Al-Thubaiti, ministry’s spokesman, reassured the families, blaming the previous contractor for the delay.

“The ministry has assigned a new contractor to get the vehicles into the Kingdom,” he said.

Some 400 cars are distributed to the disabled in different areas of the Kingdom every month.

“The cars are suitable for different types of disabilities but we give priority to people with Quadriplegia, triple paralysis and Paraplegia,” he said.

“The ministry has awarded some 2,600 cars to such people until now. People with other forms of disability are also being considered, as the government is looking forward to provide them with suitable forms of transport,” he added.

Ali Al-Asmari, a ministry official, said some 301 cars have been distributed to people afflicted with Quadriplegia, adding: “Distribution of 706 more cars will begin in the coming days for people with Paraplegia.”

He said the disabled will soon be called to choose the type of car they need.

“As soon as the ministry disburses the cars, the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center in Asir will hand them over to the beneficiaries.”
