JEDDAH: Flights that were due to leave Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International airport were postponed due to severe weather conditions in the city, according to airport authorities.

Airport management temporarily suspended outgoing flights on Sunday because of a severe sandstorm which has drastically reduced visibility in the Red Sea city.

Passengers who are travelling Sunday have been asked to contact their carries to find out the updated departure times.

The city was hit by another sandstorm Saturday, but conditions are expected to improve. The sandstorms are traditionally seen as a beginning of the summer season.

King Abdulaziz International airport, in the bustling western city of Jeddah, is the busiest airport in Saudi Arabia and serves as the main port of entry for the millions of pilgrims who come to preform haj and umrah.
