US Ambassador Joseph W. Westphal said that by 2045 it is predicted the United States will be a truly plural nation, with no ethnic group making up the majority of the country’s citizens.

Riyadh Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar was the chief guest of the high-profile event held on Tuesday night at the US Embassy. A large number of guests attended the event to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the meeting between President Franklin Roosevelt and King Abdulaziz Al-Saud aboard the US Navy cruiser Quincy. Westphal said since then the United States and Saudi Arabia have been steadfast partners despite cultural, historical and religious differences after the meeting in 1945.

"But to us Americans, these differences never stand in the way of progress and the continuous growth and development of our nation and our relationship with the people of Saudi Arabia. As a nation founded by immigrants, diversity is at the very roots of our country.

We are a single people and one nation evolving out of many cultures, ancestries and languages,” he added.

On July 4 this year, America will celebrate its 239th year since declaring its independence from England. “But we celebrate America tonight to commemorate another important date: The 70th anniversary,” he noted.

He added: "As you look around tonight, you will see firsthand how diversity of people is represented by men and women who make up the US Embassy in Saudi Arabia."

Commenting on the artwork being displayed at the event, he said: "I hope you stop to take a look at the display of Saudi artwork at the entrance to the residence. This art exhibit reflects the tradition of mutual understanding and appreciation between our two countries. But it also symbolizes our country’s celebration of diversity, showcasing the unique work of Saudi individuals in our American home, and honoring the strength that comes from the appreciation of different cultures,” the ambassador added.

Referring to the presence of the Riyadh governor, he said: "Tonight, we are honored to have a grandson of King Abdulaziz as our guest of honor to help us remember this important event. [Your] presence here tonight reminds us why the meeting between his grandfather and President Roosevelt was so important for regional security and economic partnership.”

The US embassy also celebrated friendship with the host nation through food. “As you enjoy yourselves this evening, I hope you’ll sample some of the food from different parts of the United States, from apple pie to jambalaya, from the iconic American burger to one of my favorites, New York style pizza,” he elaborated.

He added: "This culinary sampling is just one part of something that is fundamental to our identity as Americans – our cultural diversity."
