Border guards in Jazan killed a drug smuggler and injured two others in a shootout during a drug-busting operation.

The smugglers had opened fire at the guards when they were confronted for trying to smuggle in 140 kg of hashish, said Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki.

The deceased, who died on the way to the hospital, had in his possession an automatic gun and ammunition.

“Authorities will not be lenient with anyone who exposes the nation’s children to drugs,” he said.
