The Philippine Embassy is currently liaising with police in investigating the death of an overseas Filipino worker Michael Fuentes Villacojer in an apparent suicide.

Villacojer, a 33 year old AC technician who comes from Cebu in Central Visayas, reportedly jumped off of a rooftop of his three-story accommodation in the Saudi capital.

Speaking on the issue, an embassy official told Arab News: “Deo Villegas, a member of HR, informed the embassy about the incident two hours after Villacojer’s death. The police were also informed,” adding that the embassy is still waiting for the investigation report on what really happened.

Villacojer reportedly spoke with his immediate superior, Roel Dela Rosa, an engineer, and requested that he be transferred to another project because he was “seeing ghosts.”

“The request was granted, but he suddenly became quiet and did not talk unless someone probed him. He even remitted money to his family before committing suicide,” Villegas said.

Dela Rosa was quoted as saying that he could not initially recognize Villacojer’s face because it was deformed. He ruled out any foul play because Villacojer had no enemies.

A roommate of the victim said that Villacojer was acting strangely before the incident took place.

“He would no longer eat and was always restless, waking up at the crack of dawn," the roommate said.

According to records issued by the Philippine Embassy’s Assistance to Nationals Section (ANS), there were 15 cases of suicides reported in the Central and Eastern regions from January to July of 2014.
