RIYADH: The Ministry of Labor and Social Development has forged a number of agreements with employers in Najran to provide employment opportunities for women in the region.
“The agreements also enable women to start their own business ventures,” Abdul Moneim Al-Shihri, undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development for Special Programs, told local media.
The most prominent projects include the allocation of spaces for women and families, producers and galleries for the sale and maintenance of mobile phones at the Royal Plaza Market. After the agreements were finalized, he also visited the Ministry of Commerce and Investment branch office in the region, urging officials and staff to cooperate for the success of the projects.
During his visit, Al-Shihri was welcomed by officials in the region, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, the chamber of commerce and industry, and a number of businessmen and investors.
He also witnessed the inauguration of the Najran Mall, where women will also be allowed to have a space for their own business ventures. The inauguration was also attended by officers from the Ministry of Labor and Social Development in the region, with the Najran Mall expected to become a center for family shopping in the region.
A restaurant intended exclusively for women was also envisioned to be established at the mall to attract more visitors and increase business “since they’ are expected to buy something once they’re inside the building. A businessman present on the occasion expressed optimism regarding the move to create business opportunities for women. “It will definitely ramp up business in the region and help improve the economy. Moreover, it will promote empowerment of women so that they could be more active as participants in economic development,” he said.
